"Cigar"

In the 'Caroline' over West Virginia
Spring, 1960

In 1960 John F.Kennedy bought his own plane,an old DC3 christianed 'Caroline' after his daughter, which would become his flying campaign headquarters until the general election campaign on Labor Day when a bigger plane was needed. Kennedy would invite politicians familiar with his next stop on the plane, listen carefully to their advice and arrive at his destination fully informed. The small cigars he clutched and loved were Cuban, which became a problem after the Bay of Pigs disaster and his declaration of an embargo. There were to be no more cigars after the 2,000 he had stashed away were gone. Sadly he never got to that point.
